Hoppin’ Along

At first, it was just a limp. I had friends over and Radley, my boxer, ever the social butterfly, was bouncing back and forth between guests. She would sneak a lick as much as she can, because that dog loves to lick anything. But mostly, she loves people. And as she flitted about amongst the guests at my house, she began to avoid using her back right leg. I searched for a wound, something, but there was no indication of an injury. She also didn’t make a sound as I mangled her leg around trying to find something. Nothing.

Get Out

Film Title: Get Out

Wow. I had avoided the trailer and most commercials for the movie Get Out so really didn’t know much about it at all other than the terrible billboard I saw (it was not clear what the actual movie title was given that the tagline and title were the same font/size) and that it starred Catherine Keener (a favorite) and Alison Williams (someone I assume I don’t like because I’ve only seen her in an episode of Girls before realizing that show is not for me). I knew Jordan Peele wrote and directed it and that it was horror. So, yeah, no real expectations.

For all their faults (and there are plenty) the one thing the X-Men franchise got majorly right was casting Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Arguably the greatest casting of any superhero franchise (give or take a Downey, Jr.), Jackman’s Wolverine/Logan has consistently captured the complexity of the character, even he’s about a foot taller than he was on the page. Even in the weaker installments (and there have been plenty), Jackman was never the weak link.

The Lego Batman Movie

There’s a lot of good stuff in The Lego Batman Movie: great voice talent, a clever story, fun visuals, and wall-to-wall laughs. It’s also the only major Batman movie where Batman happens to be the most interesting character.
